CHRAPA INTRODUCES AN INNOVATIVE WAY OF COMBATING GENDER BASED VIOLENCE BY RECRUITING, GBV/COMMUNITY OFFICERS AND TRAINING 14 COMMUNITY PARALEGAL OFFICERS FOR COMMUNITY SENSITIZATION ON GBV FIELD VISITS (MONITORING AND EVALUATION)

CHRAPA did recruit a GBV specialist called Mrs. Bonglam Agnes in the Month of September 2019 (See the TOR for the recruitment of the GBV specialist for details attached to this report as appendix 01 details) and proceeded to recruit 14 paralegals resident the above mentioned project areas in Section 1.5 above in the month of October 2019 See the TOR for the recruitment of the GBV specialist for details attached to this report as appendix 06 details.

After the recruitment of these staff a capacity building forum was organized to train all project staff, 14 paralegals, journalists and other project stakeholders like the MINPROFF and representative of the Women Empowerment Centre. See full specialized report of 65 pages of the training attached to this report as appendix 07 for details and Appendix 08 attached to this report being list of paralegals employed, reasons for their selection and contact numbers.

This training involved 14 paralegals, 05 members of the press(from the Eden Newspaper, The Watch Dog Newspaper, NDEFCAM Radio, Abakwa Radio Station, Equinox TV) and 02 project partners, (that is MINPROFF and the Women Empowerment Centre) partially achieving objective one of the project document “IDPS and Host community are exposed to GBV prevention activities” with focus on educating IDPS and Host communities in GBV prevention activities and support educational outreach and communication activities through local media achieving.

The training took place for 03 days from the 9th of October through 11th October 2019, where project partners, journalists and 14 paralegals were trained. This was to ensure that community members are adequately informed about GBV and the services that the project offers, public awareness and social mobilization activities carried out.

They were trained on the following modules:

CORE MODULES:

The main topics covered within the 03 days of training were as follows:

Day 01,

  • Understanding the basic principles of Human Rights,
  • Monitoring Human Rights,
  • Criminal procedure and Access to justice,

Day 2

  • Land and law,
  • Marriage and divorce,
  • Inheritance and will writing,
  • Conflict resolution /management,
  • Rights and duties of the individual to the community,

Day 3

  • Simplified recovery procedure of debts under the OHADA law,
  • Torts and tortious Acts,
  • Women Public participation and leadership,
  • Gender Based Violence (GBV), Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) and Conflict Based Gender Based Violence (CBGBV) and Remedies
  • Analysis of Community Paralegals role on the field and the operationalization of project activities on the field.

 

RESULTS ACHIEVED:

Based on this activity above, the 14 paralegals who are community based volunteers immediately after the training engaged work, intensive community sentization, education and mobilization campaigns were engaged from it, a total of about 16,835 were directly sensitized or educated by CHRAPA through their community mobilization, education and sensitization programs. This comprised a total of 4,708 Youths, 5207 Women, 6,044 Men, 547 Mbororos and 349 People Living With Disabilities (PLWD) as detailed in the tables below.

Also out of the 16,835 people directly sensitized and those who were sensitized and educated over mass media that is about 76,500 persons, the following persons were identified in the following project areas accordingly. This was directly as the results of the work of the paralegals who were recruited and trained accordingly, who were working in the following localities in 04 divisions of the NW region.

Thirdly, after the sensitization, education and community mobilization campaigns, the identification of beneficiaries, 304 beneficiaries were selected for both individual and group support with 168 different RIGA businesses setup as a result of the massive and intensive interventions of the 14 paralegals and the GBV specialist recruited by CHRAPA.
