CHRAPA SHARES DIGNITY KITS TO GBV VICTIMS

During the identification process, 500 dignity kits were distributed to various GBV victims(very desperate cases), the physically challenged women and those women traumatized by the crisis that needed counselling to raise their hope/give dignity (as we identified cases of many women  with kids whose husbands were murdered in front of them and have undergone lots of torture leading to trauma) and above distributed to abandoned old persons especially women, whose families have completely abandoned them, some with complicated health challenges. An average of 30 dignity kits were distributed to each paralegal for particular intervention area that is 420 dignity kits and 80 dignity kits were distributed from the CHRAPA headoffice at Ghana Street Nkwen, as identification and counselling of GBV cases, IDP Host Communities and IDP cases was ensuing, many people flooded the CHRAPA head office when they head there was assistance to GBV cases, IDP Host Communities and IDPs. The dignity kits package comprised of slippers, a loin cloths, savons and a sanitary pads.

The choice of the items selected were based on the fact the loin cloth could be used as an emergency dressing for a rape case, the loin cloth could also be used as reusable sanitary napkins, and it could also be used as  shading for women have some privacy when they want to bath in the open. The tablets of soap, pads and slippers  for hygiene and sanitation especially in communities suffering from road blocks where access to buy basic necessities is difficult.

 

RESULTS:

As a result of the distribution of dignity kits that ensued alongside basic psychosocial first aid, many GBV victims/survivors opened up to tell their stories and accept to get registered for either psycho-social support, or be referred to other more specialized services like legal or health assistance.

500 women received dignity kits assistance and 25 who did not need economic support are currently undergoing psycho-social support at the CHRAPA Psychosocial First Aid and Trauma Department.
